General misconceptions about health practitioners

There are some general misconceptions about the role of medical doctors, homeopaths, naturopaths, and healers.

1 - General practitioners or better called medical doctors and homeopaths do not have any course about nutrition, natural or herbal medicines.
This is a general practice in all western universities including South African universities.
Therefore if you ask your medical doctor about these types of treatments the honest answer is, "I do not know" - therefore it is better to ask a specialist.
Medical doctors are not allowed to refer a patient to a none medical doctor. For example a medical doctor is not allowed to refer a patient to a Homeopath or a Healer.

2 - Homeopathy is not using natural medicines. It is about 150 years old.  They use extremely diluted and potentised substances. Though some of these substances are poisonous the homeopathy medicines are considered safe because they are extremely diluted. In general only information reaches the body.
Homeopathy is not recognized by medical doctors and universities. This is the reason in South Africa only Technikons teach homeopathy. They also don't study pharmaceutical medicine and are against using chemical medicines.

3 - Naturopaths study natural medicine and diet.

4 - Nutritionists and dietitians study food and diet.

5 - Healers do not have any formal academic degree. They are categorized in many different classes like traditional western, Chinese, middle eastern, Indian, African, American Indian, etc.
