The Maasai take some species in soup as a drug or stimulant. In most cases the root bark is used. Other forms include the root, stem bark or pieces of stem. The most commonly used `soup' species are: Mimosa nilotica (olkiloriti), Pappea capensis (oltimigomi), and Scutia myrtina (osananguruti).
